Revised Children’s Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS)

TF-CBT Cohorts 16-18

The Revised Children’s Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS)* is a youth self-report measure of anxiety and depression symptoms (i.e., social phobia, panic disorder, major depression, separation anxiety, generalized anxiety, and obsessive compulsive symptoms) for children or adolescents in 3rd – 12th grades.

Descriptive Statistics:  Pre- and post-treatment assessment measure means, standard deviations, and standard errors for each subscale of the RCADS are listed in the table below, as well as the range of possible T-scores for each subscale.

RCADS Subscales: Descriptive Statistics

Repeated Measures:  Repeated measures analyses (paired samples t-tests) were conducted to examine pre-post group mean differences on RCADS subscales and Total scores.  Analyses showed statistically significant improvement in all RCADS domains.

RCADS Subscales: Paired Sample T-tests

RCADS Subscales: Pre-post Treatment Mean Scores

RCADS Total Severity Scores: Pre-post Treatment Mean Scores

Individual Clinically-Significant Change:

At pre-treatment, 84 and 114 clients, respectively, had pre-treatment Total Anxiety and Total Anxiety and Depression scores at or above the clinical cut-off score of 70. Of note, 42 and 51 clients, respectively, were missing post-treatment data for the Total Anxiety and Total Anxiety and Depression scales.  Analysis of the clients with post-treatment data showed that the RCADS Total Anxiety and Total Anxiety and Depression scores for 38 of 42 (90%) and 54 of 63 (86%) of these clients, respectively, decreased to non-clinically significant levels at post-treatment.

For RCADS subscales, there were 53, 104, 98, 117, 66, and 49 clients, respectively, with pre-treatment RCADS Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Major Depression, Separation Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive scores at or above the clinical cut-off score of 70. Of note, 31, 45, 43, 55, 28, and 22 clients, respectively, were missing post-treatment data for the RCADS Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Major Depression, Separation Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive scales. Analysis of the clients with post-treatment data revealed that there were 20 of 22 (91%), 46 of 59 (78%), 49 of 55 (89%), 53 of 62 (85%), 35 of 38 (92%), and 26 of 27 (96%), respectively, with RCADS Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Major Depression, Separation Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive scores that decreased to non-clinically significant levels at post-treatment.
